Dive into Safety with SwimSafer 2.0

At UP Swim House, we are proud to offer the SwimSafer 2.0 program—Singapore’s national water safety initiative developed by the National Water Safety Council in collaboration with Sport Singapore.

Launched in 2010 and enhanced in 2018, this program aims to teach swimming proficiency and water survival skills in a fun and progressive manner, thereby reducing drowning incidents in Singapore.

Program Objectives

SwimSafer 2.0 is designed to:

Program Structure: Six Progressive Stages

The program comprises six progressive stages, each building upon the previous to develop comprehensive swimming and survival skills:

Stage 1

Introduction
to Water Skills

  • Focus on building confidence and independence in the water.

  • Learn basic movements, safe entry and exit, and personal water safety.

Stage 2

Fundamental
Water Skills

  • Develop skills like unassisted step entry, sculling, and feet-first surface dives.

  • Aim to swim 25 metres continuously.

Stage 3

Personal & Stroke Development Skills

  • Introduce coordinated breathing and swim strokes over 50 metres.

  • Learn to put on a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) in water.

Stage 4

Personal Survival and Stroke Improvement Skills (Bronze)

  • Enhance stroke techniques and introduce throw rescues.

  • Swim 100 metres using various strokes.

Stage 5

Intermediate Personal Survival and Stroke Refinement Skills (Silver)

  • Focus on efficient stroke techniques over 200 metres within set timeframes.

  • Learn survival skills like swimming away from a sinking boat.

Stage 6

Advanced Personal Survival and Swimming Skills Proficiency (Gold)

  • Master advanced survival skills, including creating a flotation device from clothing.

  • Swim 400 metres using a variety of strokes within set timeframes.
